RALPH F. GURNEY 82 of Elkton, Oregon passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Chantele's Loving Touch and Memory Care in Sutherlin, Oregon. He was born April 10, 1928 in Millwood, Oregon to George and Lucinda Gurney. Ralph came from a large family and was raised in the Hubbard Creek and Sutherlin area. On April 22, 1946, Ralph enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Ralph served in Korea and Japan. During this time the Army Air Corps became the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on July 8, 1948. Ralph received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan. Following his military service, Ralph worked as a logger and later a millwright. Ralph and June moved to Camby, Oregon in 1973, to Molalla, Oregon in 1974 and then to Elkton, Oregon in 1982. Survivors include his wife June; sons Kelly, Curtis, Keith and Steve; daughters Eunice, Carol Ann, Nellie, Barbara and Debbie; son Don and numerous relatives. Ralph was preceded in death by parents and all of his siblings. Memorial services with military honors will be held Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses. John Preston will officiate. Private cremation rites have been held.
