Reg G Thomas

July 29, 1936 — October 23, 2019

Reg Gaydon Thomas, 83, of Loon Lake Oregon passed away on October 23, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. He passed at his home in Roseburg, Oregon, with his wife, Nannette, of 65 years by his side.

Reg was born, the eldest child of the late John and Opal Thomas, on July 29, 1936, in Brady TX. He began working construction at an apprentice at the young age of 17 in Redondo, CA. He met and married the love of his life in 1954 and they had 2 young children, in 1962 he moved the family to Umpqua, Oregon and started Reg Thomas Construction. Then 2 more children were added to the family in the following years. Reg was a well-known contractor in the Umpqua Valley for many decades. He took pride in the homes he built and the connections he made in the trade. He trained many up and coming professionals in the business.

Reg always provided for his family, even if it meant working away from home. He moved to many states (Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California) while building motels in the ’80s. He was a family man first and foremost, from snowmobiling at Diamond Lake, to sailing at Dexter Lake, he was always there for his family. He surprised his family one Christmas with tickets to Hawaii, it was the start of his (and his daughters) love of sailing. He enjoyed snow skiing with his son, playing catch with his grandsons, and watching his family grow. Reg belonged to Ducks Unlimited and The Denim and Diamonds Dance club. Watching he and his wife dance on the dock is one of the fondest memories his granddaughter has.

Reg is preceded in death by his son James, his parents John and Opal, and his sister Vonda. He is survived by his wife, Nannette of Roseburg, 3 children and their spouses, Cindy and Jim Mathies of Sutherlin Oregon, Raelyn and Jeremi Sullivan of Remote Oregon, and John and April Thomas of Evanston Wyoming. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 ½ great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no services at this time, however, there will be a memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to The Cancer Center in Roseburg Oregon.
