Richard V. Coleman

March 6, 1936 — July 1, 2016

Richard (Dick) Coleman, our dad, passed away at the age of 80 on Friday, July 1st, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by loving family and caregivers. Dad was born in Chester, Mississippi, and moved to Oregon to work in the lumber industry, dedicating 42 years to Roseburg Forest Products.
Dad was a proud father and grandfather and was loved dearly. Our kids called him, Papa. He built a swing set in his backyard for them! He was a talented man and truly gifted at woodworking. Extraordinary pieces were built in Papa's Shop behind his garden. And his garden was the best!
Dad loved sports and the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing. We even remember frog legs on the dinner table! For over six decades, Dad's year revolved around Opening Day and Deer Camp! Following his retirement he spent many evenings enjoying Doc Stewarts baseball.
Our dad is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; three children (and spouses): Melissa Donahoo (Brian), Darren (Deri), and Brett (Tasha); four grandchildren: Kelsey Donahoo, Connor, Paris, and Justin Coleman (Alix). Dad is also survived by four sisters: Jo Ward (Bill), Sarah McDaniel (David), Ann Coleman, and Syble Warrington (Marion); and three brothers: Jerry (Alma), Robert (Nancy), Daniel Ray: and his brother-in-law: William Gillock (Marcie). He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Ollie Mae Coleman; our mom's parents: Jim and Lois Gillock; and two brothers: Arnell (Rita) and George (Cheryl).
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8th at 3:00 p.m.
Location: Wilson's Chapel of the Roses, 965 W Harvard Avenue, Roseburg, Oregon.
Special Thanks to the staff at Umpqua Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their devoted care, and to Holly Wilson Werner for her love and support during this difficult time.
