Richard "Dick" H Yurk (Jurk), 83, passed away with everlasting peace on August 28, 2010 at Manor House Memory Care Community of Roseburg. He was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on March 17, 1927 to David and Ruth Jurk. Dick's family moved to California in 1943. After graduating from El Segundo High School in Los Angeles, he enlisted and served a year in the US Coast Guard. Following his service, he moved to Oregon to complete his education and graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. In March, 1951, he married his life partner of 59 years, Betty Ann Stanley. They moved to Sutherlin, Oregon that September to start a family and career. Dick was employed by the Sutherlin School District over a span of 30 years, serving as a devoted Teacher, Coach, Counselor, Principal, and Superintendent. After retirement, Dick lived a quiet life, spending time with his family and especially cherished weekend camping trips to the coast with his grandchildren. He loved to stay active and walked almost every day to meet his friends for coffee and to shoot the breeze. Dick is survived by his wife, Betty of Roseburg, Oregon, his two children, Cary Yurk of Hong Kong, Lonnie Yurk and his wife, Jane, of Sutherlin, brother and sister in law Don and Carolyn Jurk of Manhattan Beach, California; sister, Jean Edwards and her husband Carroll, also of Manhattan Beach, California; four grandchildren Kelsie Yurk of Beaverton, Kristin Larson and her husband Rhett of Bend, Oregon, Hannah Yurk and Lyndi Yurk of Australia.He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Melia Kai Larson of Bend, Oregon, and Caitlyn Yurk of Australia. A special thanks to all the staff and caregivers of the Manor House Memory Care Community involved in the extra touch of love and care for "Richard" over the past two and a half years.
