Richard Marvin Pope was born on October 4, 1967. He was the son of James Richard Pope and Mary Ellen Erickson Pope. He lived in Roseburg most of his life. He owned his own home for several years and had a variety of roommates. After selling his home, he moved to Seattle two different times to live with a friend. He had an apartment in Roseburg for several months and then lived in the home of his sister, Pattie, for more than a year. Rick suffered a stroke in November of last year and had been residing in a semi-independent care home in Sutherlin since January of this year. Rick passed away on June 23, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg after another stroke.
When Rick was young he loved fishing, camping, bowling, playing baseball and playing football. He became disabled at the age of twelve. He attended school in Roseburg through the eleventh grade. Rick enjoyed working at Indian Lanes and enjoyed a summer job at the golf course where he drove a cart that picked up golf balls on the driving range. Rick loved to bowl. When he lost a leg in 2014 due to complications from diabetes, his desire to get back to bowling fueled his recovery. He was eventually able to bowl using his prosthetic leg. For better or worse, Rick loved to gamble. In recent years playing poker machines was his favorite activity.
Rick was a person of faith.
