RICHARD CHARLES SAUNDERS 86, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Monday October 5, 2009 at his home. He was born May 15, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri to Gilbert and Ruth Saunders. Richard served in the US Navy as a photographer's mate, third class during WW II. He was called back into active duty during the Korean Conflict. On June 3, 1950 in Hollywood, California he married Patricia Reynolds. Richard worked for many years as a Research Scientist and had many patents. He was an Eagle Scout, a Scout Commissioner for several years, volunteered at the VA Medical Center golf course "Aspirin Acres", and the senior center. Richard also enjoyed going to second hand stores, fishing and hiking and inventing. The Saunders' moved from Camp Nelson, California to Roseburg, Oregon in 1991. Survivors include his wife Patricia "Pat" Saunders of Roseburg; daughters Sandy Montes and her family of California and Wendy Saunders and her family of Roseburg; son Patrick Saunders and his family of New Mexico. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother. Private family services will be held. Private inurnment will be held within the grounds of Roseburg National Cemetery.
