Rita Faye Jones was born October 20, 1942, in Newport News, Virginia, to parents William Ellis Jones and Sally Frances Weatherly, and transitioned November 28, 2016, at Mercy Hospital surrounded by her family in Roseburg, Oregon.
She is survived by her younger sister Rhonda Bear; life partner, Dan McCall; and her four children, Fritz Gombart, Taj Gombart, Kier Gombart and El¡n Gombart.
She moved to Oregon in 1973, with her first husband, Dr. A. K. Gombart, to raise their family. She became a nurse and then a general education teacher for GED students. After retiring, she spent as much time as she could with her 13 grandchildren. In her spare time she played music on both the piano and guitar, wrote poetry and loved to read and study physics, calculus and other science ideas. She even learned to use a computer in 2009, to continue making the family calendar; a practice that she started in 1990, after her first grandchild was born. She also made a special illustrated storybook for each grandchild, according to their interests. She loved to travel and went to Belize with her granddaughter, Saige Gombart, in May of 2016, and was planning another trip to South America with her grandson in 2017.
She was affectionately known as Granny by most. She was a most loving person that saw the good in everyone.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 18th, 2016, at 922 SE Cass Street, Roseburg, OR, at 11 a.m.
