Robert E. "Bob" Schumaker

ROBERT E SCHUMAKER 81, of Sutherlin, Oregon passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at his home. He was born February 6, 1934 in DeKalb, Illinois to Burnell H. and Grace D. (Brown) Shumaker. Bob enlisted in the US Navy after high school and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to h is home in Sycamore, Illinois and went into business as a home builder. He moved to Ashland, Oregon in early 1970 to take up his love of flying. Bob earned his license as a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor. He had to give up his flying eventually, due to health reasons. Before retiring to Sutherlin in 2003, he worked as a manager at Al's Hobbies in Medford, Oregon. Bob loved his hobby of building planes and boats. He was also an avid golfer and tennis player. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Betty; daughter Cindy Solomon and husband Brandon; son Michael Schumaker and wife Sheryl, son Rob Schumaker and wife Robyn; step-daughter Carmen Ebersbach and husband Dee and step-son Mark Childers and wife Lia. This blended family has 10 wonderful grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses. Pastor Stewart Fowler of the Calapooia Free Methodist Church will officiate. Private interment will be within the grounds of Roseburg National Cemetery.
