Robert George Semmel
May 31, 1936 - August 7, 2017
Bob went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Monday August 7th while resting at his home in Roseburg, Oregon. He was born in Port Carbon, PA to Robert and Anna (Blakitis) Semmel. Bob was the oldest of seven boys, all who grew up in the Mahoning Valley of PA. In 1954 he graduated from Lehighton High School. He served 8 years in the National Guard of Indiantown Gap, PA. Bob taught 6 years at the Youth Forestry Camp, a school for juvenile offenders, he found great joy in teaching and helping the young men under his care.
Bob is survived by his wife Pamela of Roseburg, and his 3 children from a previous marriage, Robin Wise and husband Brian of Sweet Home, Kevin and wife Barbara, Keith and wife Lori both of Albany. Also 6 grandchildren and 5 great grand children. His brothers Lamar Semmel & wife Delores of Brooksville, FL, Richard Semmel & wife Carole, Randy Semmel & Wife Linda, Ron Semmel & wife Diane and Rick Semmel, all of Lehighton, PA, and his brother Roy Semmel & wife Lenida of Albany, OR.
In July of 1978, Bob Received Jesus Christ as his Savior, he went on to study at Multnomah Bible Institution in Portland for a year. There he became interested in serving with Rescue Missions. For 35 years he was married to Joann Semmel, they served the Lord holding services at Camilou Retirement Home in their local church and at Helping Hands in Albany. After Joann went home to be with the Lord in September 2008, Bob worked with Love Inc. & The Salvation Army in Albany. Then in January 2009 another blessing was sent his way, He met Pamela Winters and eventually they fell in love. They were married on February 20, 2010 at the Melrose Community Church in Roseburg. They served the Lord together for the last 7 years at the Roseburg Rescue Mission. Twice a month they gave the Good News of Christ and His Salvation to the men there. Bob preached and Pam always shared an amusing story or joke. Bob always said "Pam was the hit of the meeting!" Their years together were filled with love and serving.
A memorial service will be held at the Melrose Community Church on August 26, 2017at 1 PM. Donations may be made to Melrose Community Church new worship center fund.
