Robert Gordon "Bob" Smith

Robert Gordon Smith (Bob), passed in peace on February 24, 2017 in Roseburg, Oregon at the age of 89. Bob was born November 24, 1927 in Denver, CO to Seldon and Dorothy Smith.

Bob attended Verdugo Hills High School in Los Angeles and graduated in 1945. After he graduated, Bob served two years in the Navy aboard the Patrol Craft Escort vessel, where he aided and rescued downed aviators from the sea.

On October 16, 1948 Bob married the love of his life, Lorraine Mae Carl in Vancouver, WA. They were married for 68 years and he cherished her presence everyday until he passed.

Bob was employed for several years at Sun Studs in Roseburg before retiring. After retiring he and Lorraine along with their daughter and son-in-law became partners in Smitty's Food Mart & Deli which is still family owned.

Bob taught himself to play the piano and loved playing his ragtime tunes, which he did flawlessly all his life. He also enjoyed dominos, watching Lorraine bowl, playing keno at Seven Feathers, and spending time with family and friends.

Loved ones who will miss Bob; his wife Lorraine of Roseburg OR, his 5 children, Gordon Smith (Sharla) of Roseburg OR, Barry Smith (Reva) of Sutherlin OR, Lynne Dense (Doug) of Bend, OR, Craig Smith (Terri) of Coburg, OR, Danna Mock (Russ) of Sutherlin, OR. "G Bob" also left behind 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother Danny Smith (Loretta) of Grants Pass, Or, brother-in-law Frank Carl Jr Roseburg, OR, sister-in-law Delores Carl (auntie Babe) Eugene, OR, several nieces, a nephew and friends.

Loved ones who preceded Bob in passing; Bob's parents Seldon (Po Po) and Dorothy (Nana) Smith, sister Sherri Wieler (aunt Honey), father-in-law Frank Carl Sr, mother-in-law Ida Carl, brother-in-law Fred Wieler, sister-in-law Maxine Carl (auntie Max) and niece Susan Carl.

Our "Daddy Bob" celebrated life everyday with a smile, a quick wit and sense of humor that leaves us with the fondest of memories and will live on forever in our hearts. May you rest in peace.

A special thanks to the professional and caring staff at Riverview Terrace who took such great care of dad in his final months.
