Robert M. Breese

Age 100, of Roseburg, Oregon and formerly of Elmira, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. He was born October 14, 1913 in Elmira to U. Fred and Florence Lynch Breese and grew up on the historic family farm in Breestown, NY. He was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and Elmira Business College.

On December 6, 1933 Bob went to work as a billing clerk for S.M. Flickinger Co. in Elmira. During his 45 years of employment there he had advanced through several positions and in 1973 was promoted to General Manager and Vice President. During those years he was part of the growth of the food industry, requiring the building of two large warehouses. The company grew from supplying small independent grocery stores to serving 110 stores and supermarkets and 450 restaurants, schools and colleges. He was responsible for some 255 employees, who were all extremely fond of him. In 1965 he was named Boss of the Year by the Elmira Jaycees.

After his retirement, in order to be closer to his son and his family, he moved to Oregon in 1985 purchasing a home in the Green District. He was an active member of the Green Community Church and the Winston Senior Center.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Dorothy Elizabeth Field who passed away in 2001. His second wife, the former Clara Fish Cragg, passed away in 2008.

Bob is survived by his son Robert Field Breese and wife Sandra; grandson Sean Breese, his wife Jeannine and great grandchildren John, Clayton and Kimberlee Breese of the Sacramento area; granddaughter Barbara Smith and he partner Lee Richards of Kansas City; step-son Timothy Cragg and his wife Phyllis of Lawrence, Kansas and step-daughter Debbie Schwabel and her husband Bill of Orchard Park, NY.

The family wishes to give special thanks to his long-time caregivers Peter and Denise and to the staff at Oak Park Assisted Living Community.

A funeral service will be held at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on October 14, 2014 at 10:30 am. A private family burial will follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Green Community Church.
