Robert Clifford Knapp
Our loving Bob passed peacefully and joyfully into the arms of Jesus one month shy of his 57th birthday, December 7, 2018.
Robert, aka: Bob, Bobby, Bobbo, was born January 7, 1962, to Gerald Clifford Knapp and Catherine Mae Knapp in Klamath Falls Oregon. Bob and his sisters came to Roseburg in the early 70’s with their mother after spending some time in other states. There he briefly attended Roseburg High School before joining the Navy at age 17 (with his mom's signature of course.)
His years in the Navy were spent on the USS Okinawa. Upon completion of his service time he worked at the carnival operating the games and transporting the carnival rides to each location. This was the beginning of his career as a truck driver which he loved. He worked for Free Spirit Enterprise, A&M Transport, Mark Jones, Paul Jackson, Umpqua Dairy, and finally Roseburg Forest Products. For a time he had his own power washing business called “Ever-Clean” and was also a travel business owner for Knapp Time Getaways for 10 years.
Bob met and married the love of his life, Julie, on May 5, 2000. Family time during the holidays and special events were cherished times during their marriage. They also enjoyed their extended family at New Life Church in Roseburg and involvement from leading Alpha classes, the singles group, coordinating jet boat trips for the congregation and being on the church’s security/event team. Bob had a passion for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed hosting monthly poker games; serving up his famous chili, cookies and lemon bars. He loved to cook and eagerly looked forward to making Christmas treats with his sister Terry.
Sadly, Bob was diagnosed with bladder cancer in December 2017 after months of recurring symptoms. The 19 month journey was long and difficult for Bob and Julie but they never lost sight of where they obtained their strength and where he would complete his journey. Jesus was their strength and held them the entire time. Bob was so ready to be free from pain, to be with his Lord and to be with his family. He is preceded by his Mother, Catherine Farley, Father, Gerald Knapp, Grandmother, Mae Rowan and Grandfather, Dale Harter. He is survived by his wife Julie Knapp; Mother-in-Law Loya Weaver; precious step-daughter whom he loved dearly, Nichole Alvarado and partner Josh Hulst; Son, Christopher Knapp; Aunt, Sandy Harter; Uncle, Glen Harter and his wife Barbara; Uncle Paul and Aunt Rose Sandoval; Grandmother Dee Wilson; Sister, Terry Thomas and husband Steve; Sister, Glynda Tucker; Sister, Susan Hand and husband John; Brother, Dave Knapp and wife Jennifer; Brother, Jonny Knapp and wife Killian; Sister, Susan Wilson and husband Eric; many nieces and nephews; Shane, Katie, Kenny, Garrett, Brook, Kimberly, Cory, Drynda, Elizabeth, Sage, Jon, Brady, Gracie, Hattie, Everett, and his first granddaughter, Lily. Not to forget his two faithful four legged companions, Bouncer and Ruger. Ruger never left his side and loved him dearly.
In honor of Bob please join us in celebrating his life well lived on January 5th at 2:00pm at New Life Church, 1723 NE Vine St., Roseburg OR. Please wear Camouflage attire or his favorite color, green, if you are able. There will also be a Veterans Memorial / Honor Guard on his birthday, January 7th at 2:00pm at the VA Memorial Gardens which will be his final resting place.
Bob and Julie would like to thank the friends and family that prayed and supported them during this difficult journey. A very special thank you to Terry, Glynda, Carol, Rick’s Medical Supply, Stephen A. Williams MD and Raquel from Amedysis, in helping care for Bob in his final days and keeping him comfortable.
