ROBERT EDWIN ROBINS 88 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 in a Roseburg hospital. He was born March 17, 1927 in Salem, Oregon to Adlai and Helen Robins. Robert served in the US Navy just prior to the end of WW II. He received his Master's of Music from Willamette University. While at Willamette University he met Margaret Fisher and they were married on July 9, 1950. Margaret and Robert moved to Roseburg, Oregon area in 1951. Robert taught in the Oakland Public School and later was the choir director at Roseburg High School for 25 years and continued to teach music education in the Roseburg Elementary schools until his retirement. For 31 years he was the publicity director for the Douglas County Fair. He was a member of the Umpqua Timbermen Barbershop Quartet and other barbershop quartets around the state. Robert was also active with the Vintage Singers, directed and sang in many musical endeavors. He was the editor of the Oregon Music Educator magazine for many years. Robert was active in St. George Episcopal Church for years as the choir director, Lay Reader and worship leader. Survivors include his daughter Betty Robins of Roseburg, Oregon; son David Robins and his wife Robin of Columbus, Ohio; brother Charles Robins of Belleview, Washington; grandchildren Melody Blackwell, Megan Peterson, Joseph Wiggins IV, Mark Atherton, Daniel Atherton, Sarah Lindsay and Andrew Robins; 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Margaret and daughter Kathleen. A celebration of Robert's life will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm at St. George Episcopal Church, 1024 SE Cass, Roseburg, Oregon 97470. Father Jim Boston will officiate. Private cremation rites have been held. Robert's urn will be placed along side of his wife in the columbarium at St. George Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers please designate memorials to St. George Episcopal Church.
