Ronald Earl Hartley went gently and calmly to his Lord on April 18th, 2013 at his home in Roseburg after a day spent admist the love and comfort of numerous children and grandchildren. He was born on July 28th, 1936 in Mt, Vernon, WA to Lydia (Goode) and Robert Earl Hartley. Ron's early years were spent on a small farm on the Camano Island, WA where he enjoyed the freedom of being a country kid in the 1940s, working, playing, hunting, and fishing with his brothers in the surrounding woods and helping in caring for his younger siblings.
Ron joined the army as soon as he could, following the death of his older brother in Korea, and was a medic in Korea until the end of the war. Upon his return he married Donna Carnes of Marysville, WA and moved to Oregon where they were blessed with six children.
Ron and Donna later divorced and Ron moved for some years, working in California, Idaho, Arizona, and Washington. He often said that he was "a tramp mechanic". Ron also worked in construction/carpentry work, he was sort of a jack of all trades but a master of none. He did master at least one, however. Ron helped and comforted people wherever he lived.
Ron returned to Oregon in 1983 and spent the rest of his life enjoying, counseling, and loving his many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to be hunting, hiking, fishing, laughing with them and thoroughly enjoyed all time with them. Many of them were there for him on his last day and he gloried in that.
Ron's family feels that his legacy is a legacy of love, where love and forgiveness prevailed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Shan Ron Hartley, brothers Gale, Rick, and Jerry, sisters Roberta Metz and Lona Jay. Ron is survived by his children: Ronda Kelly of Glide, OR, Shemi (Michael) Fleig of Grand Junction, CO, Troy and Reed (Laura) Hartley of Roseburg, OR and Gayla (Mike) Whitehead of Roseburg, OR. Great grandchildren are David, Logan, Alyssia, Madeline, Brayden, Gavin, Isaiah, Corbin, Everett, and two more on the way. Sisters are Marydel Hamilton of Mt.
