Ronald Oilar was born in Canby, Oregon at his Grandmother Grace Oilar’s house Nov. 5, 1930. Grace was a mid-wife to several of his siblings. His parents were Wayland & Blanche Oilar and he was the second of six children: Ula, Ron, Sally, Roger, Linda, and Gary. He was brought up in his early years in Barlow just outside of Canby. He attended school in the Canby area until his family moved to Roseburg in 1945. Ron graduated from Roseburg High School in 1949. During his years there he was very active in sports. In his senior year he won the state boxing championship.
Ron married Marge Roberts in 1950 and they were blessed with three sons Steve, Mike, and Patrick. His son Steve preceded Ron, but his sons Mike (Judy) and Pat (Sylvia), survive their dad. He married Janet Irene Hartshorn in 1969 and gained another son, Michael. Ron and Jan enjoyed several wonderful years together spending winter months in Kauai, Hawaii after his retirement. Ron and Jan loved golfing and bowling. Due to health reasons he unfortunately lost Jan this past year.
Ron worked in the logging industry most of his life. He first worked at Martin Box Co. in Oakland. He also worked at the Log Scaling Bureau, and he eventually went to work at Sun Studs where he worked until retirement.
A special thank you to all the caregivers at Riverview Terrace and Amedisys hospice, especially Corina Escobedo-Jones.
Ron had 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on August 18th, 1 PM at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roseburg. In lieu of flowers, any gifts in kind please consider: St. Jude’s, Amedysis, or St. Paul’s Lutheran church.
