Ruth was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 28, 1923, to Gerald Fitzgerald and Minnie Dreher Fitzgerald. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up in Parma, Ohio, and attended Parma Senior High, where she played clarinet in the band and was a national honor society member. Ruth attended Business College and worked for several years as a bookkeeper.
In 1948, while roller skating, she met a young man named Larry, and in 1949, they were married. Last August they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Ruth was a fun loving, adventurous, active wife and mother who volunteered with PTA, Girl Scouts, and in her golfing community. She was a sharp bridge player and played all her adult life. She enjoyed golf, bowling, water activities, Mah Jong, and supporting her children in their activities.
As Ruth and Larry moved to different areas of the country for his career, she easily made friends in each community, many whom she still kept in touch with.
Our Ruth passed away on March 16, 2018. She is survived by her husband Larry; son, Gary and wife Becca; daughter, Cathy Loomis and husband Tom; grandkids, Eli Mahar, Lindsay Collins and Kyle Loomis; and great-grandson, Max Mahar.
She loved us all in her quiet way, and she will be greatly missed.
At Ruth’s request there will be no service.
