Ruth D. Jacobsen, 96 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on Friday January 20, 2012. She was born in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1915 to William and Ada (Bowman) Deniker. Taking Nursing training in West Virginia, Ruth graduated in May 1939. She joined the navy as an Ensign in 1942. Ruth served as Specialist Operating Supervisor in Africa, Italy, France, and Key West, Florida gaining the rank of Lieutenant in June 1944. She served in the Pacific on Guam and was released from service in May 1954. Ruth was always very proud of her service to this country and riding in the Veterans day parade in 2010 gave her great pride and pleasure. Upon moving to Roseburg in 1954, she married Frank Jacobsen and they purchased a chicken farm on Keasey road. Ruth lived there until 2007. Anyone who walked along Keasey might remember, the white haired lady on the porch swing next to the creek. She worked as Head Nurse at the Roseburg Veterans Home for many years. Another of her many activities was serving as a local and State Grange Officer. While Frank was alive, they traveled extensively through Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. On several occasions they put the chest freezer in the truck and drove to Alaska. The Freezer stayed cold while driving and at night they stopped somewhere and plugged it in. Game such as moose and fish, was on the table that winter. Ruth resided for three year at Callahan Retirement Center. Private cremation rites will be held.
