SANDRA LYNN McCORD, "Sandy" went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at home with her family by her side. She was born February 2, 1947 in Roseburg, Oregon to Ervin and Nellie Best. Sandy was a lifelong resident of the Roseburg area and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1965. Sandy worked in the Roseburg School system for over 25 years. She was a teacher's aide then retired at the high school cafeteria. Sandra met the love of her life Leon and they were married in 2008. She loved to go camping at the coast in Bandon, Oregon and to pick up special rocks for her yard, she also loved to go fishing at Hemlock Lake, Lake of the Woods and at the coast, but most of all she loved being with her family. Sandy also enjoyed the butterflies and had a great time at the Butterfly Pavilion in Elkton, Oregon. Sandy looked forward to her work at the RHS Football games in the Concession with Kathy, the Legion Baseball games were a favorite also. She attended church faithfully since the age of three when her beloved grandmother took her there. Sandy was always seen with a big smile and had a kind word for all. Survivors include her husband Leon McCord; parents Ervin and Nellie Best; brother Steve Best and his wife Linda; sons Andy and Eric Howe; daughters Debra Timmons; grandson Timothy; granddaughter Nellie Kay; 4 aunts; 1 uncle and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mercy Hospice, Linda Best, Rick and Sue McMichael, Pastor and his wife of Westside Christian Church and the church family for the loving care that they provided. Those who wish may pay their respects on Thursday, June 5th from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7th at 2:00 pm at Westside Christian Church. Following the service everyone is invited to a potluck at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Cancer, Special Olympics of Mercy Hospice.
