Our Precious Sarah Virginia (Ginger) Hicks was carried into the arms of Jesus on September 9th, 2011 on a beautiful sunny day at the age of 89. She rejoined her beloved husband, L.B., who passed 13 years earlier on Sept 9th. She was born on November 6, 1921 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Frank and Mabel Patterson. She was one of six children, five of which preceded her in death. Her surviving brother, Leon Patterson, and his wife Mildred reside in Lebanon, Oregon. Others preceded in death were her loving husband and best friend of 62 years, LB Hicks, daughter Joyce Clarenbach and husband William Clarenbach, and grandchild, William George Clarenbach. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Loya and Nick Weaver, grandson and wife, Michael and Carol Clarenbach, granddaughter and son in law Julie and Bob Knapp, great granddaughter Nichole Alvarado, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ginger was a very giving person. She loved cooking for her family and specialized in fried fish, okra, and biscuits and gravy. She loved fried chicken, sitting on her back porch, shopping for clothes, going out to eat and camping with her family. She catered to everybody, always thinking of others. In her earlier years she painted ceramics and had a creative side behind the sewing machine. Being a snowbird she and L.B. traveled to Arizona every year for 25 years to enjoy the sunshine, friends and shuffleboard. They won numerous awards and trophies over the years. She so loved helping raise her great grandchild, Nichole, who was the sparkle in her eye and the beat in her heart. Her sense of humor was spontaneous, sometimes unexpected and hilarious. She could certainly keep you in stitches. She loved people and loved her friends. One of her very dear friends she cherished was Pat Cummings. The last years of her life were spent at Callahan Village. She would always tell us how well "they" took care of her. She was loved and we, the family, are so thankful that the Lord placed the Callahan family in her life. Thank you to all who cared for her these last few years. We appreciate you beyond words. We especially want to thank her primary caregivers, Deb, Liz, Rebel and her med aids, Candie and Susan. You gave our precious "Ginger Snap" excellent care and love. She so loved your hugs, your kisses and the laughter that came with all it. We will have a gathering of friends and family at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Friday, September 23 at 11:00am. Pastor Mike Fromdahl will officiate. All who were touched by Ginger are welcome to join us. In Lieu of flowers the family asks for your donations to be made to: The Roseburg Dream Center 747 SE Mosher St Roseburg OR 97470 Or on their web site at roseburgdreamcenter.org
