Shirley Ann Mellor
On March 17, 2012, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving husband.
Shirley was born on May 17, 1933 to Gerard and Hattie Hoekstra in Roseland Minnesota. She was raised in the Seattle area and graduated high school in 1951.
Shirley met her husband of sixty years, John Eugene (Gene) Mellor in church; they were married in 1951.
In 1951 Shirley and Gene moved to Canyonville and started a family, then FJM Trucking. For greater than forty years Shirley was Vice President and managed the business end.
Shirley was active in the Oregon Forest Products Association and the Vogue RV Rally club as secretary and event planner. She loved gardening and had a green thumb especially for orchids and African violets. Shirley's special gift was cake decoration. Her cakes were the star of many wedding and parties.
Shirley loved travel and visited Canada, Europe, Mexico in addition to all of the United States.
Shirley was a woman of strong faith and loved the Lord; a love she passed on to her children.
Her beloved parents precede her in death. She is survived by her husband Gene and her children Rick (Su), Ken (Rulena) Mellor, Kathy (Kevin) Kinney and Patty (Tom) Bentley. A special love was shared between Shirley and her grandchildren, Kevin (Elizabeth), Jason (Summer), Dustin, Janelle and Lane Mellor, Scott (Jen) and Travis (Karlea) Kinney, Tyler, Gillian, and Vanessa Bentley. Shirley was blessed with eight darling great-grandchildren.
Shirley is also survived by her brothers Wes (Sandra) and Jerry (Carol) Hoekstra, sister Esther (Larry) Weins as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
On March 24 at 12pm services will be held at Wilsons Chapel of the Roses followed by graveside services at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held Saturday morning at 11:30 until service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests gifts be made to Mercy Hospice.
