Sonja Marie Wooley

SONJA M. WOOLEY 76 of Oakland, Oregon passed away Friday, September 4, 2009 in a Roseburg hospital. She was born May 24, 1933 in Toledo, Washington to Helmer and Mary Oberg. Sonja graduated from Roseburg High School in 1951. In 1952 Sonja married Lawrence Dean Wooley in Winlock, Washington. The Wooley's moved from the Dean Creek area of Reedsport to the Kellogg area in the 80's. Sonja was a homemaker, great cook, enjoyed quilting and knitting and loved horses. She was a Life Member of the American Morgan Horse Association and was well know for her showmanship. While the Wooley's lived near Reedsport they attended Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband of 58 years Dean Wooley of Oakland, Oregon; daughter Karen Mattes of Patterson, California; son Steven Wooley of Oakland, Oregon; brother Bert Oberg; grandchildren Kristofer Hedges, Ann Marie Smith, Megan Murphy, and Jasmine and Ryan Wooley; great grandchildren Philip and Robert Hedges. Mrs. Wooley was preceded in death by a daughter Nadine Wooley and a brother Gilbert Oberg. At her request, the family will have a private service. Private cremation rites have been held. Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses is in charge of arrangements.
