On Wednesday, September 28, 2011, Stanley Douglas Bennett was taken away from us at the age of 71, after a long illness, with wife, Kathy by his side.
He was born on November 11, 1939, to Earl Wain and Irma (Kunz) Bennett in San Francisco, California, at a early age they moved to Orland, California, then to Myrtle Creek, Oregon, when he started high school. He loved playing sports and excelled in track. After high school, Stan joined the army reserves.
In 1965, he married Kathy Wilson and lived in the San Francisco Bay area where they raised their daughter, Terri. He loved coaching his daughter's softball team and also fishing and hunting with his dad and friends.
He worked for U.S. Steel for 19 years, until it closed then moved back to Oregon to be closer to his father and mother. He worked for Roseburg Forest Products for 18 years until his retirement. After retirement, he loved to spend time at the coast with his wife, Kathy where he loved to fish and crab with his daughter, Terri and grandchildren.
Stan was an avid garage saler. He never knew a stranger, was friends to all. His presence will be missed by all who loved him.
Stan was preceded in death by his father and mother, daughter, Natalie, grandson, Edwin and nephew, Rick.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy and his son, Doug (Mary) of Denver, Colorado (from his first marriage), daughter, Terry of Roseburg; grandchildren, Brandy, Christal, Jason, Jared and Jaclyn; siblings, Barbara and daughter, Leslie, Shirley, Janice (Kyle) and sons, Klint and Luke.
Special friends and family, Monte and Rose Borg; Bob and Mary Smith; George Aiken; Karol Buley; sister-in-law, Sharon Wilson; cousin, Harold Ward and auntie, Doreen Lehnhardt.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Chapel of the Roses in Sutherlin, Oregon. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ, 175 Heritage Way, Roseburg, Oregon, (Fairgrounds Exit), on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 11 a.m
