THEODORE FRANKLIN INSLEY of Roseburg, Oregon, deeply loved by family, friends and all who knew him, passed away on the 4th of December 2017.
Ted was born to Charles and Harriet Insley in Roseburg, Oregon on March 17, 1925. He was one of five brothers: Stanley, Bob, Lewis and Wyllis Insley, two of whom are still living. Ted's father move to Oregon in 1910 after buying a farm on the South Umpqua River just south of Roseburg where Ted grew up. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 1943. Upon graduation, Ted joined the Army Air Corps and trained pilots during the rest of his military service. He returned to Roseburg in 1945. On June 27, 1947 he married Doris Moran of Roseburg. Their three sons, Brad, Greg and Chuck were all born in Roseburg. Although they moved around the Northwest over the years, He and Doris always returned to Roseburg, where they eventually settled for good after Ted retired. After Ted's retirement, they built a home on their river property and spent many happy hours together on their back porch enjoying the view of their fields and river. They spent all their time together, just enjoying life. They did everything together: farming, hunting, flying and travelling. Ted and Doris were very industrious and prospered at whatever they put had to. Ted worked for Pape Brothers' Caterpillar franchise for most of his career. He started out selling heavy equipment, mainly to loggers and later moved into the management of the stores. Ted retired from that business and went back to his first love, which was faming, growing hay. He continued to actively farm until he was 91 years old. In 1967 Ted along with Don Johnson of Myrtle Creek, started the first helicopter crop dusting business in the Sunnyside, Washington area. Although that business was successful, Ted gave up that business after 3 years due to health reasons. Ted is survived by his three sons; two brothers; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous other relatives. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is in charge of arrangements. Please visit
