THEODORE "TED" E. THOMPSON 89 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born May 19, 1923 in Arlington, Washington to Elmer C. and Mable H. Thompson. Ted graduated from Arlington High School in 1941. He served in the US Marine Corps during WW II (Iwo Jima Survivor) and during the Korean Conflict. Ted moved to the Roseburg area 60 years ago. He owned and operated Thompson Logging and T&H Construction until he retired in 1995. Mr. Thompson was a member of the VFW and American Legion posts. He was an gifted woodworker and enjoyed trap shooting, repairing heavy equipment and developing special equipment. Ted has received awards and trophies for being a sharp shooter and for log truck and trailer backing up. Survivors include his wife of 15 ½ years Dolores F. Thompson; daughters Candice Jewel and Alyce Ann Kennaday; step-daughter Jean Simper; step son Scott Simper and his wife Debra; brother Elmer C. Thompson and his wife Jackie; grandchildren Ann, Trevis, Brian, Laura, Christopher, Landyn, Gabriel, Hallie, Chalase, Kelli, Melissa, Kristy and Robert; great grandchildren David, Makayla, Natalee, Tyler, Brandi, Corban, Mathew, Oceana and Tyrone. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and previous wife Helen Marie Thompson in 1996, son-in-law Gary Kennaday and step-son Doug Simper. Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the new Roseburg National Cemetery. A reception/memorial will immediately follow at the VFW Post 2468, 1127 Walnut Street in Roseburg. Contributions may be made in Ted's memory to Roseburg VFW Post 2468 Douglas County Veterans Memorial.
