Thomas M. "Tom" Stanley

Thomas Melvin Stanley passed away on April 16, 2016, in Roseburg, Oregon, at the age of 89.
Tom was born September 28, 1926 in Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived as a child. His family moved to Lake County, California, where he met and married Joyce Petersen in 1947. Tom and Joyce lived in Lakeport until 1962 when they moved to Grass Valley. They lived in Grass Valley until 1984 when they moved to Oregon living in the towns of Myrtle Creek, Sutherlin, and eventually Roseburg. Tom was a WW2 veteran serving as a firefighter in the US Navy in Saipan. He was a 32-year employee of Pacific Bell where he retired in his early 50s to enjoy traveling, fishing, and gardening. In Grass Valley, he was a leader in the Boy Scouts, a member of the Grass Valley Rifle, Rod and Gun Club, and well as many other service clubs. He won numerous awards and sweepstakes for his vegetables at the Nevada County Fair. He was a dedicated community volunteer wherever he lived, serving as a volunteer fireman, on the search and rescue teams, and a city council member in Lakeport.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce; his sister, Margaret Reese of Santa Rosa; his son, Dale (Rebeca Franco) Stanley of Weed; his daughter, Leslie (Mike) Blagg of Grass Valley; grandchildren, Tyler (Amy) Blagg of Lodi, and Kelsey Blagg, of Santa Clara, and three great grandsons, Nathan, Henry, and Oliver Blagg of Lodi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Roberta; brother, Jack Stanley, and sister, Sally Prehoda.
