Troy Windell Nelson

Troy Windell Nelson of Roseburg, Oregon, formerly of Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with lung and heart disease on Friday, February 3, 2017, in Roseburg, OR.
Troy was born August 22, 1933, in Clarksville, Texas, to Walter and Ida (Ruby) Nelson. He was the second of seven children.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Kathryn Nelson, Mildred "Mickey" Hopkins, Rachel Smith; and brother, Timothy Raby. Troy was also preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Ray Nelson.
Troy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Wanda Lea Nelson; his daughter, Kelly Dale Nelson-Cunningham (Marc); stepdaughter, Tammy Asbjornsen (Michael); grandchildren, Hope Elizabeth Nelson, Tristan Troy Nelson, Emilee Ray Nelson; great-grandchildren, Peter and James; and many nieces and nephews; he is also remembered by his best friend, Larry Smith; and close friend, Rick Taz.
Troy served in the United States Marine Corps and survived the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart among many other citations.
Troy was a jack of all trades who made his living as a pipefitter and welder. His favorite things were growing the best gardens including giant pumpkins and the hottest peppers.
Troy loved to share his gardening successes with friends and neighbors. He also loved growing the prettiest, tallest giant dahlia. Troy was a WWII history enthusiast. He loved his pets, becoming an avid bird watcher when his health no longer allowed him to be active. Troy looked forward to seeing his daughter and grandchildren each time they came to visit.
Troy was loved endlessly by his wife, daughter and grandkids, and will live in their hearts forever.
