VERNON MEYER 85, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in a local hospital. He was born June 11, 1925 in Manitowoc Rapids, Wisconsin to Louis and Edna Meyer. Vernon served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, Korean Conflict and Viet Nam. He retired as a Senior Engineman in 1974. In January 1961 in Toledo, Ohio he married Vera M. Savage. After his retirement from the Navy, the Meyer family moved from California to Roseburg, Oregon. Mr. Meyer worked at Roseburg Lumber for many years until he retired in 1988. Vernon was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and was a big Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan. Survivors include his daughters Sandra Anderson of Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Cheryl Alkire of Roseburg, Oregon; 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his wife Vera in 1989 and his son Gary Meyer in 1970. A celebration of Vernon's life will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 10:00 am at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Chaplain Theresa Scott will officiate. Military Honors provided by the Oregon State Military Honors Team. Private cremation rites have been held.
