Violet "Vi" Welker

VIOLET "VI" WELKER, age 99 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away June 4, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living facility. She was born October 27, 1915 in Santa Clara, California to Antonio Pierce and Lena Pierce-Byers. Vi married Walter "Wad" Welker in 1934. They moved to Roseburg and spent 78 years together as Roseburg residents before Wad passed away in 2012. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing bridge and later in her life, playing bingo. Vi loved playing golf and was a lifetime member of the Roseburg Country Club. Vi was predeceased by her parents, husband and son, David Lee Welker. She is survived by David's wife, Alberta Welker; Granddaughters Dawn and her husband Bruce Shafer, Carmen and her husband Peter Cofrancesco III, and Allison and her husband Jon Wesler; Great-Grandchildren Tyler Shafer of Scottdale, PA, Ireland, Peter IV and Emma Cofrancesco of Sparta NJ and Zoey and JT Wesler of Royersford, PA. The family would like to thank Bonnie Gordon for her compassionate support and care for Vi; Vi's other long time caregivers Ramona Saunders, Brenda Stone and Gaile Curtis for providing her with the best care; and the Brookdale staff for their exceptional and incredible care while Vi was there. A Rosary will be held at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. A graveside service and interment will follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
