Virgil Edgar Essary, known as "Bud" to all, passed away on Sunday September 27, 2009, at the age of 79. He was born on July 10, 1930 in Swan, Missouri to John Edgar and Marshie Elizabeth (Pierce) Essary. Bud was the fourth child in a family of ten children. As a boy, he was raised on a small farm in South West Missouri. At 13 years of age, he worked on the neighboring farms, in the woods cutting stave bolts for barrel staves, and cutting timber. When Bud was 15, he and his friends went to the wheat harvest in Kansas. The following year at 16, he "hitch-hiked" to the wheat harvest again, and then worked his way to Williston, North Dakota, where he worked in construction. But Bud had his mind set on the West. Working his way to the Yakima Valley, Sanger, California, and finally settling in Roseburg, Oregon. Bud married Juanita Eileen Reetz in 1948, and started working in the timber industry. After her father's death in a logging accident, Bud started his own business as a "Jippo" logger for Paul B. Hult in Dillard, Oregon. Finally, he was a contract logger for Roseburg Lumber Company for over 35 years, and retired to his farm in the Lookingglass Valley. Bud enjoyed his hobby of collecting and restoring classic and antique cars. At one time, he had 26 of them. Bud and Juanita had their 61st anniversary on September 3, 2009. He loved his family, and was a friend to everyone. But most of all, Bud loved his God and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for 53 years. He will be dearly missed. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Ernie and Bert, and a sister; Lorene. He is survived by his wife Juanita Eileen Essary of Roseburg, daughters; Karla Potter and her husband Denny of Roseburg, Dayle Pyle and her husband Steve of Roseburg, son; Randy Essary of Milford, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; Kate Davis, Dane Potter, Kacy McDowell, Jolene Herinchx, Jack Essary, Jessie Allen, 6 great grandchildren; Jayd and Keagan McDowell, Dylan and Ty Davis, Brendan Allen, and Danielle Herinckx, and many more family and friends. A visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday October 1, 2009 at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Celebration of his Life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday October 2, 2009 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, in Roseburg, Oregon. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
