VIRGINIA "JEAN" MAE BERKSHIRE of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at her home. She was born November 18, 1930 in San Jose, California to George R. and Adye Nell (Lang) Rigby. Jean married Fred Butler of Roseburg in 1947, she moved from Oklahoma to Roseburg, Oregon in 1998 after the death of her husband Carl Thompson. In 2001, she married Alvin H. Berkshire. Jean and Al moved from Roseburg to Nevada in 2005 and back to Roseburg on February 29, 2008. She was a member of Westside Christian Church, lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9745, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the military order of Cooties Ladies Auxiliary and also was a volunteer at the VA Hospital. Jean enjoyed sending cards, letters and pictures to family and friends and had a great sense of humor. Survivors include her daughters Judy Butler of Roseburg, Oregon, Nancy Dunnewin of Kettle Falls, Washington and Pamela Butler of Minden, Nevada; sister Laura Johnson of Glendale, Arizona; grandsons A. Scott Reasor and Stephen Reasor; great grandchildren Brandon, Brett, Aeden and McKenzie; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Berkshire; son Roy Thompson, sisters Margaret Fenn and Dorothy Thornton, a niece and brother-in-law Elton Johnson two day earlier. A celebration of Jean's life will be held Saturday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 am at Westside Christian Church. Pastor Charlie Jordan will officiate. She will be interred in Roseburg National Cemetery with her husband Al.
