Waldo Franklin Smith age 91 of Roseburg passed away November 16, 2009. He was born on October 15, 1918 in Huntington WV to Joseph and Nellie (Hughes) Smith. Waldo served his country during WWII in the Third Army as a medic. As a veteran of North Africa, Italy and Europe he had been awarded the Purple Heart. 64 years ago on December 30, 1944 in Pikeville, KY he married Jane C. Johnson. She was at his side when he passed. Waldo had been a cat skinner, equipment operator and worked in the timber industry. He was a long time member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 2949. He was preceded in death by his folks Joe and Nellie, Brothers Wendell and Harry, Sisters Mamie, Elma, Silvia, and a sister-in-law Nora. He is survived by a brother Carl, Sisters Elaine and Norma, and Brothers -in-law and Sisters-in-laws Mary Weston, Burk (Wanda) Johnson, Pete (Jenny) Kennedy, Betty Kiser, Emma (Archie) McCoy, Richard Johnson, Patton (Gin) Johnson, Blanch Rickoff, Randy Johnson, Joe (Lois) Johnson, nieces and nephews Lynn, Jerry, Randy, Rick, Tim, Julie, Sharon, Liz, Gus, Alan, Rhonda, Carma, Jenyan , and at least 18 others, and a number of friends to large to be placed here. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held this Friday, November 20, 2009 within Roseburg Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM.
