WALTER LYLE KEENEY 84, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at his home. He was born June 17, 1930 in Blachley, Oregon to Logan L. and Mary R. (Clark) Keeney. Walter graduated from Triangle Lake High School. He served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. Walter worked for many years as a logger, then construction of hydro electric dams in Oregon, the John Day dam where he opened the first bucket of cement, in Washington he worked on the Little Goose Dam and then Lower Granite Dam, in Montana the Libby Dam, then to Eagle Point, Oregon for another dam, then to Roseburg, Oregon where he helped build the new Justice Building (Court House) and the I-5 freeway and then the Sutherlin Sewer Plant. Walter was a Life Member of the Moose, AMVets, Douglas County Sheriff's Association, NRA and Labor Union. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to yard sales and camping in the Ochoco Mountains. Walter Keeney and Art Ennis received the Citizen's Award on November 26, 1975 for helping take police and medics to get to an area in the Callahan's to rescue 2 young men at an accident as his pickup was the only vehicle to be able to get to them. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Audrey Keeney; daughter Lorene Roosevelt and her husband David; son Michael Keeney; grandchildren Alfred, David Jr. (Nicole), Gregory Roosevelt (Amanda), Adam Keeney (Cassie) and their 2 children, Daniel and Andrew Keeney; great grandchildren Austin and Devin Roosevelt, Kailey and Kenzie Roosevelt, Bailey Bass, Gabrielle Roosevelt, Maurice Cox and Caleb Roosevelt; special friends Art and Patsy Ennis, Sherl Hilde and Ken Pederson. A special thanks to helper and friend Laurie Lewis and PJ Kingle. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Logan and Mary Keeney; brother Logan L. Keeney and good friend Noris Helde. Graveside services with military honors will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm within the grounds of the Roseburg National Cemetery. A reception will follow at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.Those who wish may pay their respects on Wednesday, September 4, 2014 from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
