WILLIAM "BILL" (PUMPER) CONKEY 61, of Roseburg, Oregon lost his battle with colon cancer on December 12, 2014. He was surrounded by family in his final hours. Bill was born on November 10, 1953 to William and Margaret Josephine Conkey in North Bend, Oregon. He received his nickname of Pumper from his first job as a gas station attendant at Al's Chevron in Roseburg, Oregon. Bill graduated from Roseburg High School in 1971 and began his logging career in 1972. In 1994 he left trucking and in 1999 earned his Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. He worked various positions in the field before becoming the Supervisor for the Access and Crisis team with Douglas County Mental Health, where he worked until June of 2014. In January of 2014 he was diagnosed with advanced stage colon cancer and began checking items off his bucket list such as going to a Mariner's game, catching his first salmon and purchasing a 1976 Kenworth log truck to restore and run in the local parades. Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Grace Conkey, Chet and Marge Craig; mother Margaret Josephine; his first wife Anne Conkey; father-in-law Jerry Bauer and brother Mark Weber. Survivors include his wife of 26 years Kimberly; parents William and Annabel Conkey and Judy Bauer; children Jerry (Janelle), Michael (Amy) and Elizabeth; grandchildren Charlotte, Timothy, Tyler, Merelise and Hayden; his faithful companion Brutus "Mr. PeePee"; siblings Loretta (Jim), Robin (Robie), Margie (Don), Wayne (Autumn), Andy (Debbie), Kathy (Eric), Johnell, Mark Bauer, Kelly and Jim Mannenbach, Kerry and Don Hughes, Edie and Marc Otterbein, Patty and Michael Whalen, Maggie Bauer; numerous nieces, nephews and many other extended family member. Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, compassion, never ending smile and never calling anything or any one by their given name. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, December 20, 204 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sutherlin. Father Cletus Osuji, Celebrant.
