William Hyde (Bill) Ebeling died peacefully on the morning of Friday, June 15th. Bill was born in San Jose, California to Hyde and Alice Cole Ebeling on August 1, 1926. He attended school in San Jose, helped his father run the family business, the San Jose Soda Works and later joined the United States Navy, where he served in the North Atlantic conflict during WWII as a Machinist's Mate 1st Class aboard the destroyer escort U.S.S. Bronstein. Following the war, he returned to San Jose where he spent much of his professional career self-employed as a machinist. Many of his peers considered him a brilliant inventor and skilled problem solver, a Master Craftsman Tool & Die Maker and a Mass Production Machining Engineer. Following his marriage to Thelma Hopping Reaney Ebeling, he passed many of his extraordinary skills on to his stepsons. While the kids were growing up, the family vacationed every year, fished, camped, and traveled to fun locations, eventually relocating in Myrtle Creek, OR in 1973. In later life, Bill and Thelma enjoyed ocean cruises and Hawaiian vacations and were inseparable until death. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife, companion and best friend of 47 years Thelma Reaney-Ebeling this past March 6, his parents Hyde and Alice Ebeling and brother-in-law Bill Wood. Bill is survived by his step children Pamela McDonald and husband Arthur, Mark D. Reaney, Jr. and wife Molly, Bill Reaney and wife Bonnie and Bob Reaney and wife Kim, sister Pat Wood, brother Bob Ebeling and wife Carol, Sally Weitkamp and husband Bill, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, June 23rd at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg, OR. Graveside commital will be with in the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens, and reception for friends and family will follow at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
