WILLIAM OTIS "BILL" OAKLEY 74, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Friday, June 8, 2012. Bill was born to Otis and Mary (Runyan) Oakley on April 17, 1938 in Roseburg, Oregon. He grew up and went to school in the Green area. Bill graduated from Roseburg High School in 1956. He served in the National Guard from April 1955 to August 1967. Bill married the love of his life Frances McIntyre (his "girlfriend") on May 21, 1960. His life's greatest joys were his wife and children, Shirley (LeRoy) Bice, Monica Mead, Phillip Oakley, Ron (Rhonda) Oakley; five grandchildren Mike (Lauryn) Miller, Jessica Bice, Darcey Mead, Sabrina and Rose Oakley. Bill began working for Umpqua Plywood on September 18, 1956. He continued to work for the company after it was purchased by Roseburg Lumber Company and retied from Roseburg Forest Products Plant 3 after 44 years of service. During this time he also decided to purchase the "Angelina" and try his hand at commercial fishing. Bill also loved to hunt, he and his boys have a lot of hunting stories to tell. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick and sister Alma; his second parents Vern and Martha McIntyre and brother-in-law Basil Johnson. Survivors include his wife, children, grandchildren and a large extended family. Family was always the most important thing in Bill's life. He will be remembered as the most loving husband, beloved dad who could fix anything and a doting grandpa who would always be there to spoil you. Forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 10:00 am at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Pastor Mike Ruyle of Melrose Community Church will officiate. Private interment will be in the Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation to Parkinson's Research would be appreciated.
