Wilma, 83, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, February 25, 2012. She was born June 19, 1928, to William and Ada (Smith) Melton. Wilma was raised on their family farm in Dixonville. After graduating from Roseburg High School, Wilma worked at Miller's Department Store and then at the Douglas County Courthouse, where she met Richard (Dick) Hanlin who was working as a forester for Douglas County. Dick and Wilma were married on February 14, 1954, and just celebrated their 58th anniversary. Wilma is survived by her husband, Dick, and three children, Jerry Hanlin, Gina Kooken and John Hanlin. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Christopher Kooken, Jessica Kooken, Brett Hanlin and Beau Hanlin. Also surviving is her sister Nellie Rose and brother-in-law John (Bud) Richards, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents William and Ada Melton, and brother Charley Melton. Wilma loved to paint, make dolls and play cards. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Gosman, Dr. Raj, Dr. Robinson and the staff of Mercy Hospital and Umpqua Valley Rehab and Nursing facility for all that they did for Wilma. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
