WILMA ELIZABETH RHODES 94 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 in a local care facility. She was born November 1, 1917 in Winfield, Kansas to Erle E. and Carol I. Switzer. On June 1, 1938 in Gardena, California she married Claude Rhodes who preceded her in death after 54 years of marriage in 1992. The Rhodes family moved from California to the Roseburg, Oregon area in 1949. Wilma drove school bus for Luther Ellison in the 50's and 60's. She worked at Mercy Hospital for 24 years as a Certified Nurses Aide. Wilma enjoyed homemaking, sewing, quilting, canning and gardening. She was a member of the Meridian Chapter 79 Order of Eastern Star in Eugene, Oregon and a lifelong member of the Evergreen Grange. Survivors include her sons Roger Rhodes and Fred Rhodes of Roseburg, Oregon and Charles Rhodes of Missouri; sister Phyllis Melton of California; brother David Switzer of Missouri; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was also preceded in death by her parents; sister Wilrose Switzer; brothers Rudy and Robert Switzer and a grandson Randy Rhodes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Graveside services will follow within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Chaplain Robert Rapp will officiate. Those who wish may pay their respects on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
