Winifred Irene Hammerschmith, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Winifred was born March 7, 1929 in Richmond, Indiana, to Howard and Margery Miller. She is survived by her husband, Adolph "Duck" Hammerschmith Jr, ten children, Tom Hammerschmith (Marlene),Linda Karnogh (Jim),Janet Elegmore (Steve), Beatrice Quest, Don Hammerschmith (Debbie), Hans Hammerschmith (Dyan) Patricia Neves (Gary), Ben Hammerschmith, Gretchen Wilson (Chuck), Marvin Hammerschmith( Becky), 29 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and one Great grandchild. Infant son, Richard Hammerschmith preceded her in death in 1949. She was a resident of Sutherlin since 1957, having moved from Tacoma, Washington. While in Sutherlin she gave piano lession to several children and adults in the Sutherlin - Oakland area. Playing the piano, singing, and sewing were some of her favorite pastines. She was active in the Fairoaks Grange, Red Hat Club, a volunteer for the Ruok with the Sutherlin Police Department, and a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sutherlin. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on July 14, 2012 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer society.
