Zelia M. Mccurtain

Zelia Mae "Zee" McCurtain, age 96, of Roseburg, OR passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 18, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends. Zee was born on July 12, 1915 in Hollis, OK to Edd and Bula Sloan Thompson; she was the oldest of seven children. She attended school in Gould, OK. For her first job, she worked as a telephone operator in Hollis. She was married in 1933 to Alfred Ex Messenger and they moved to Oregon in 1951 for work in the timber industry. Alfred Ex died in February of 1962. She married William "Bill" Rowland in 1968 and they moved to the Portland area where she worked in the new accounts department of a bank, until her retirement in 1977. Bill died in 1971. She married Vena' McCurtain in 1979 and resided in Tigard, OR until his death in 1996. Zee moved back to Roseburg in 1998 to be closer to family. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, crafts, quilting, and was an artist specializing in oil paintings. She attended the Roseburg Church of Christ. Survivors include her brothers LV Thompson and his wife Charlene of Roseburg, and Emory Thompson and his wife Judy of Houston, TX. Her sister, Viola Himes, of Tulsa, OK, sisters-in-law, Wilma Thompson, of Duke, OK, and Billie Thompson of Amarillo, TX. Many nieces and nephews of whom she loved dearly and thought of them as her own children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Myrtle in 1975 , and her brothers Altus in 1973 and Dallas in 2008, all of Oklahoma. She loved and was very much loved by her family and friends and kept a positive attitude till the end. Funeral services will be held at the Roseburg Church of Christ, 1475 Garden Valley Blvd. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 11:00. Visitation will be at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Tuesday from 3 - 5 PM.
